GENERAL PROCEDURE PRINCIPLES



BASIC PRINCIPLES FOR ALL MEDICAL PROCEDURES


  -Gather and prepare all supplies- because missing supplies can disrupt a procedure
  
  -Ensure safe, private and confidential environment for procedures that require privacy

  - Explain procedure and the need for it to the client and obtain informed consent

  -Provide adequate pain medication according to the extent of the procedure planned. Choose 
      medication basing on the estimated time the procedure is estimated to take

  -Wash hands with soap and water and put on gloves

  -Clean sites with antiseptic if need be

  -Conduct the procedure in a respectful and professional manner that won’t embarrass the client

  -Maintain a meaningful conversation to keep the client comfortable and gather more information     
    that relates to the observations made

  -On finishing the procedure thank the patient, help them dress properly before leaving the room

  -Dispose used items, decontaminate reusable tools, remove gloves and wash your hands
