hormone anticancer agents

5.  HORMONES AND ANTI-HORMONES

The mechanism of hormonal agents is basically inhibitory in nature. The exact Mechanism Of Action (MOA) of Progestogens for example in cancer treatment is unknown. Some theories suggest that progestins may work by suppressing the production of estrogen from the adrenal glands (an alternate source particularly in postmenopausal women), lowering estrogen receptor levels, or altering tumor hormone metabolism.

Common hormonal and anti-hormonal agents include

  •          Oestrogens
  •           Progestogens
  •           Steroids
  •           Tamoxifen
  •           Aminogluthimide
  •           buserelin

6. MISCELLANEOUS CANCER AGENTS
