AMINIGLYCOSIDE ANTIBACTERIALS


These drugs binds to ribosomes 30s giving rise to impaired peptides, thus causing impaired structures that lead to cell death. In small amounts they are bacteriostatic, in high doses they are bacteriosidal.
Active against gram negative bacteria

Examples of drugs include
-          streptomycin
-          gentamycin
-          kanamycin
-          amikacin
-          Dibekacin
-          Sisomicin

Metabolism- liver

Elimination – renal 

Pregnancy category-  D

Side effects
-can cause inner ear toxicity which can result in sensorineural hearing loss
