TETRACYCLINES

TETRACYCLINE ANTIBACTERIALS

Tetracyclines  is a broad spectrum antibiotic that binds to the bacterial 30S ribosome, blocking the entry of transfer RNA. This ultimately prevents protein synthesis and thus inhibiting bacterial growth. They are therefore described as bacteriostatic.

Examples include ; tetracycline, doxycycline, oxytetracycline, lymecycline, minocycline
